It’s hard to believe we are only one month away from another Source Houston event. The Source Houston Event is an evening of training, learning, and networking for recruiters, sourcers, and talent acquisition leaders. For one night you get to share with and learn from your peers who face the same challenges you do every day in recruiting.

What is unique about this event?

  • When you go to Source Houston you will realize that there is a spirit of community and sharing unlike any other event you have attended.

  • It is interactive.

  • It’s not heavy on theory.

  • You get to practice in real time, if you bring your laptops, the strategies and methodologies shared by the speakers and attendees to ensure an immediate impact when you return to the office.

  • You get to learn the latest and greatest tools used to find passive candidates, their contact details, and how to engage them in a way to influence them to make a change.

  • The breakout speakers are always willing to help.

What I learned from the Source Houston Event last year.

I have been recruiting and sourcing for 20 years. When I started recruiting we would source in-house through newspaper ads and job boards. The only job boards around at that time were Dice and Careerbuilder ( and they were less than a year old.) Monster came around 2 years later. We didn’t have Google, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, GitHub, Stack Overflow, or Slack. None of those companies were created yet. In fact, we didn’t even have cell phones.

With the advent of the mobile phone, particularly the smart phones and social media websites recruiting and sourcing now has more access to talent than ever before. There is no doubt that technology has transformed the recruiting and sourcing industry. Even with 20 years of experience, at Source Houston I was able to learn about new Chrome Extensions to find contact details, how to manipulate API’s, build customized search engines, web scraping techniques, and Excel Hacks to organize and be more efficient in my recruiting efforts. I also learned that I had a lot to offer as well and was able to share my journey and stories in recruiting with others seeking advice.

3 Reasons why you should attend the Source Houston Event

  • Networking is such an important part of our success throughout our careers. With so many sourcers and recruiters in the Greater Houston Area, this event is a great way to network and get connected with other recruiters and help each other solve recruiting problems that are common in all industries. Being connected to a community of like minded individuals that want to advance the recruiting, sourcing, and talent acquisition profession here in Houston.

  • They care. When it comes to recruiting, the volunteers with Source Houston believe in the future of our industry and want to give back. The people that volunteer their time are truly passionate about recruiting and helping others, and want to create an open environment where everyone can learn from anyone.

  • They keep it local. Source Houston folks don’t want to be in a hotel conference room, they’d rather be in spots around our city. This year, they’ll be at Spindeltap Brewery that is a Houston owned and operated and you are in for a treat. Spindletap will feature all their craft beers dedicated to the roots of Houston with cleverly named beers like Boomtown Blonde, Toolpusher Pale Ale, and Hop Gusher IPA to name a few.

  • One of the Sponsors is Hiretual. The founders of Hiretual actually listen to the recruiting industry and have made a great product that makes the Internet better for sourcers/recruiters through big data and AI technologies. It helps to achieve faster talent sourcing with smart search, big data insights, personal email/phone, social aggregation, and pipeline management. If you are a recruiter and are not using Hiretual this is a great way to meet their team and get a free demo of their product and how it works with Linkedin and Facebook. Hiretual can be considered as big of a game changer in sourcing as Google was to the internet.

Do you care about recruiting?

For those of you attending next month, I look forward to meeting you and sharing ideas. For those of you who haven’t signed up yet, I’d recommend you take a look at the agenda. If you are passionate about growing in your development, the advancement of Recruiting, Sourcing, or Talent Acquisition, you need to add Source Houston to your bucket list of events to attend this year.
